My top 5 Colorado Springs Locations

February 19, 2021

Colorado truly has some of the best locations in the world (in my biased opinion). We have mountains, fields, epic rock formations, lakes, national parks, sand dunes….you name it and we probably have it somewhere in our gorgeous state. Colorado Springs is no exception and home to some of these locations. It can be overwhelming trying to pick a spot for your session or elopement, so here are 5 of my favorites to help narrow your search a bit!

Paint Mines Interpretive Park

The paint mines are located about 30 miles east of Colorado Springs in Calhan. It is a STUNNING location with natural rock formations that are named after the clays that were collected by the American Indians to make paint. The fields during the summer bloom with wildflowers and green grasses. After a short hike from one of the 2 parking lots you will find the unique and delicate rock formations range from bright reds and orangest to soft whites, which makes it a perfect location for any outfit you choose (big perk!).  Being out east and away from the mountains can also mean some epic sunsets.

There is a $100 permit to shoot at the park.

Garden of the Gods

Most people think of Garden of the Gods when thinking of Colorado Springs, and for good reason! This park truly has it all from a photographers view and a tourists view. Hiking trails, Pikes Peak views, stunning red rocks, open fields, trees, wildflowers, and so much more.

Please remember a ‘leave no trace’ mentality when visiting. Dont climb over fences (DUH), avoid making new trails or straying too far from the established ones, and utilize the trashcans around the park…they are there for a reason after all.

*I reccomend booking a shoot here on a weekday. There is a lot of traffic between photogrpahers and tourists visiting the park on weekends.

Cheyenne Canyon

Located at the base of Pikes peak this location offers some beautiful mountain views that Colorado is known for, small streams and creeks that are perfect for cooling your feet during the summer, hiking trails, and Helen Hunt Falls (a small but beautiful waterfall). This location also gets a bit crowded on the weekends so I suggest a weekday session!

Woodland Park

Woodland Park is one of my favorite locations to shoot at! It has some of the best views of Pikes Peak in all of the Colorado Springs area! The aspen groves are my favorite to visit in the fall and that view of the Peak is breath taking all year round.

This location is a true treasure so please keep a ‘leave no trace’ mentality and keep it clean so we can continue to enjoy it!

Ute Valley park

This park is a hidden gem in Colorado Springs! Located in Rockrimmon this city park offers golden fields, views of the foothills, and perfect yellows and oranges during the fall!

Which location is your favorite? Or which location do you think should be added to the list??
